Miami Beach Offers Leadership Academy en Español
-- Now, Spanish-speakers Can Learn How their Government Works --

Miami Beach, FL -- Since 2001, over 550 Miami Beach community members have graduated from the Miami Beach Neighborhood Leadership Academy. The academy offers Miami Beach residents and business owners an opportunity to learn more about their city government and the services they offer in interesting, fun and interactive ways.

Now, for the first time, this interactive academy will be offered in Spanish during the fall semester. Registration is now open and classes begin Monday, August 5. Applications will be accepted until the class is full. Enrollment to the academy is limited. The free Neighborhood Leadership Academy is one semester including 15 weekly, two-hour evening sessions. The classes are held on Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall, in the Commission Chambers, third floor, 1700 Convention Center Drive.

The academy is an interactive civic and public information program designed for residents of Miami Beach. Applicant must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the program. The classes are informal and small, allowing for communication between instructor and participants. Residents enrolled in the classes have an opportunity to meet the people responsible for providing City services, gain insight into how the City works, and understand the role of each department. Additionally, there will be a question and answer period at the end of each session and students will also evaluate each class.
