BICYCLE PROGRAM
CURRENT PROJECTS
Washington Avenue Shared Lanes:
The Washington Avenue Shared Lanes Project will install shared lane bicycle markings along Washington Avenue from South Pointe Drive to Dade Boulevard in the outside travel lanes adjacent to the parking lane. The intent of this project is to improve bicycle safety by encouraging bicyclists to ride:
• on the road, not in the sidewalk • in the same direction as other vehicles • outside of the car door zone
The new pavement markings are also intended to make motorists aware of the fact that they must share the road with bicyclists.
The City is also planning to install shared lane markings in other city locations. The next shared lanes will be installed along 44th Street to provide a connection between Muss Park, Pine Tree Park, and the existing bike lanes on Prairie Avenue and Royal Palm Avenue.
Other bicycle improvements along Washington Avenue include the addition of bicycle racks from 4th Street to 17th Street, as well as Decobike Rental Stations throughout the corridor. For more information, please visit the following links.
