The Public Works Department is a large, full service organization providing planning, design, construction, maintenance and repair, and operation of City infrastructure including utility systems and City building and facilities.  The Department is also responsible for City cleanliness and manages the solid waste collection and disposal program.  The Department is represented by a multitude of professional, semi-professional and licensed disciplines working in Administration, Engineering, Transportation Management, Streets and Streetlights, Environmental Resources Management, Property Management, all in the General Funds.  The Water, Sewer, Stormwater and Sanitation Divisions are in the Enterprise Funds.

    The Administration Division directs the streets and street lighting, engineering, construction management, environmental resources management, water, sanitary sewer and storm water divisions in conducting their operations and achieving their goals.

    The City of Miami Beach Public Works Department was awarded accreditation by the American Public Works Association on May 25th, 2007.  The Department was the 42nd Public Works agency in all the North America including Canada and, 3rd in the State of Florida.  The APWA accreditation program recognizes Public Works agencies that exceed the requirements of the management practices in the Public Works industry.
