Major Angel E. Vazquez has served with the Miami Beach Police Department since 1987 and is a senior command staff member. During his tenure he has served in a variety of capacities to include; Major of the Criminal Investigations Division (CID), Major of the Patrol Division, Major of the Support Services Division, Captain of the Field Support Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Commander, Captain of Patrol, Captain of the Property and Evidence Unit, Lieutenant of the Field Support Unit, Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) Commander, Lieutenant of the First Platoon, Sergeant of the Homicide Unit, Sergeant of the Gang Unit, Sergeant of Patrol, Detective in the South Florida Money Laundering Strike Force, Detective in the Strategic Investigations Unit, Patrol Officer, Police Dispatcher and 911 Operator.
Major Vazquez is currently assigned to the Technical Services Division, which oversees the Personnel Unit, the Property and Evidence Unit and the Business Resource Unit.
Major Vazquez has coordinated a number of major and special events including; Super Bowl XLIV, Art Basel, Memorial Weekend, 2006 Super Bowl Kickoff Celebration, Operations Head for the 2005 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 115th conference. Major Vazquez has led MBPD deployments in a number of missions including; the 2005 Organization of American States (OAS) conference, 2004 Presidential Debate, 2003 Hurricane Charley assistance, and the Free Trade of the Americas Conference (FTAA) in 2003 for logistics. Major Vazquez has served on numerous multi-agency committees and operations.
Major Vazquez has received several awards and accolades including interdepartmental Unit Citation Award, Officer of the Month Award, and various certificates of appreciation and commendations.
Major Vazquez earned a Masters of Science degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Florida International University in Miami. He is a graduate of FDLE’s Chief Executive Seminar 43 and the 223rd Session of the FBI’s National Academy.
