Labor Relations is committed to improving communication between representatives of labor and management, assisting employees and management with conflict resolution, and providing employees and management with the opportunities to learn, explore and implement innovative and cooperative joint approaches to organizational effectiveness.
Besides working with these Unions and their employees, Labor Relations works with representatives and attorneys representing the Unions to amicably resolve issues. Labor Relations also works closely with the City Attorney's Office, outside labor counsel and the Office of the Manager when making decisions regarding collective bargaining, grievances and arbitrations. Labor Relations regularly makes presentations to the Budget Advisory Committee and at Executive Sessions to Commission during the contract negotiation process. Finally, to acquire additional knowledge of current practices, tendencies and occurrences, Labor Relations collaborates closely with surrounding municipalities on labor management issues and strategies in South Florida.
