Captain Mark Causey has served with the Miami Beach Police Department since 1994. During his tenure with the Police Department, he has served in a variety of capacities to include: The Business Resources Unit Commander, Captain Causey oversaw the following areas: Off-Duty Office, Payroll Office, Court Liaison Office, city-wide contracted security guards, and Police Chaplain Corps. Captain Causey was also the Department’s administrator for the staffing, payroll, scheduling software program, along with being the administrator for the Clerk of the Court’s electronic court subpoena system. Acting Captain of the Strategic Investigations Unit, Lieutenant of the Strategic Investigations Unit, Patrol Division Executive Officer, Field Training Lieutenant, Lieutenant of Patrol, Training Sergeant at the Police Academy at Broward Community College, Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team Sergeant, Criminal Investigation’s Division-Special Investigations Section Sergeant, Sergeant of Patrol, Field Force Sergeant, Field Force Cadre, Criminal Investigation’s Division-Gang Unit Detective, 11th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Gang Strike Force Detective, Office of the State-wide Prosecutor Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, Miami-Dade Multi-Agency Gang Task Force Detective, and Police Officer.
Captain Causey has been the runner-up for the Officer of the Year Award on various years, was a runner-up for the National Award of “Top Cop”, and has been awarded a multitude of departmental awards.
In 2005, Captain Causey was a co-chair for opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting for the 112th Annual International Association of Chief’s of Police (IACP) Conference. The IACP, which is the oldest and largest nonprofit membership organization of police executives, held their annual meeting on Miami Beach.
In 1997, Captain Causey was awarded the Civil Rights Award from the IACP in Orlando, Florida for his involvement with the investigation, documentation, and successful prosecution of the first ever documented White Extremist Group in Miami-Dade County and the crimes they committed on Miami Beach.
Captain Causey is a graduate from the Simon Wiesenthal Center of Tolerance to combat hate and a graduate from the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute, Executive Leadership Course.
