Major John Bambis has served with the Miami Beach Police Department since 1989. During his tenure he has been assigned in a variety of capacities to include: Major of the Criminal Investigations Division, Major of the Technical Services Division, Captain of the Strategic Investigations Unit, Captain of the Public Safety Communications Unit, Lieutenant of the Strategic Investigations Unit, Lieutenant in the Patrol Division, Lieutenant of the Criminal Investigations Unit Juvenile Crimes Section, and Sergeant and officer in the Patrol Division. He has served as the Police Department’s Special Events Voluntary Response Team Commander, Homeless Outreach Coordinator, and Commander of the Crime Prevention Unit. Major Bambis is currently assigned as the Commander of the Support Services Division, which oversees the Professional Standards Unit, the Information Resources Unit, the Records Unit, and the Public Safety Communications Unit.
Major Bambis holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy 235th Session, and the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute where he earned the Director’s Award for Academic Excellence.
Major Bambis has received the Miami Beach Police Department’s Outstanding Service Award, Officer of the Month Award, City Community Service Award, and numerous Letters of Commendation and Letters of Appreciation.
