Chief Carlos Noriega is a 27 year veteran of the Miami Beach Police Department. He has served in a command capacity in virtually every area of the Department including Assistant Chief of the Administrative Bureau, Division Chief of the Patrol Division, Major of the Patrol Division, Major of the Technical Services Division, Captain of the Property and Evidence Unit, and South District Patrol Commander. As a Sergeant and Lieutenant; Carlos also served in Criminal Investigations, Strategic Investigations, and Internal Affairs Units.
With the continued growth in the popularity of Miami Beach as the destination of choice for out of town and local visitors alike, Chief Noriega is tasked with balancing the needs of the resident population with the huge increase in the amount of visitors to the City. To achieve this pivotal balance, Chief Noriega has focused on developing the Department’s greatest resource, its people. Chief Noriega is a motivational leader who leads by example, inspiring organizational loyalty and exceptional performance.
Chief Noriega prides himself on building bridges internally, as well as, externally and nurturing those partnerships with the various home owners associations, commercial / night-life organizations, and public / private schools. These partnerships have proven to be an effective tool in crime prevention and outreach initiatives.

Coordinating the Gianni Versace / Andrew Cunanan Investigations.Chief Noriega has had a very distinguished career, receiving Officer of the Year for the Police Department in 1986, South Florida Optimist Club’s Officer of the Year in 1987, has an Outstanding Service Award, numerous Letters of Commendation, Awards, and Letters of Appreciation, and Certificates of Appreciation from the City Commission. Chief Noriega has also earned a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from FIU, a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Thomas University, and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Throughout his career, Carlos has proven himself to be a highly dedicated and professional individual who successfully balances the needs of the organization and the community.
