ABOUT US The Office of Budget and Performance Improvement (OBPI) was created on January 1, 2004 when City Manager Jorge Gonzalez combined the Office of Management and Budget, Internal Audit Department, Office of Grants Management, and Organizational Development and Training.
The focus of the OBPI is the alignment and deployment of strategic planning, resource allocation, performance, results, and accountability. Through the new office, the budget process will be enhanced to better embrace the direction of the City Commission, and the needs and desires of our citizens. Over time, the budget process will become an even more informed decision-making process and will incorporate performance and outcome measures so that the decisions of the City Commission are priority based and the delivery of our services are consistent with those priorities. Through a unique Education Compact with Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the office will support the enhancement of learning opportunities for all youth in Miami Beach. Developed with significant community input, the compact reflects the desire of the Miami-Beach community to support excellence in their schools with a focus on: teacher recruitment and retention; enhanced communication of educational and community events; family/parental involvement in education; community/business engagement, enhanced student health and well-being; improved student achievement; school safety; and technology access. In addition the office assists all departments with identifying areas for improvement including both specific departmental-related process improvements as well as overall assistance to the organization towards accomplishing the City’s vision and goals.
