FIRE PREVENTION DIVISION

MISSION

To create and maintain a fire safe environment for the citizens and visitors of the City of Miami Beach through programs of Plans Review, Inspection, Enforcement, Investigation, and Education.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

• Completed necessary plan reviews and inspections for the successful openings of the W Hotel and 5^th and Alton projects.   
• Continued to deliver the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training without receiving a grant as in previous years.   
• Reassigned the three fire certified fire inspector/investigators back to shift assignment. The three firefighters were reassigned to emergency response fire and rescue units reducing the need for overtime.   
• Created new reporting and review policies in the New Construction Section to increase efficient and timely plans review and inspections.   

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

1. Prevent fire by identifying and eliminating fire hazards during inspections.
2. Heighten public awareness of fire prevention and life safety.
3. Increase the efficiency of the fire prevention division.
