•  Family Service Day 2014

City of Miami Beach Service Partnership-Family Service Day 2014 – Presented by Miami Beach Medical Group

Come volunteer with us! On Saturday, September 27, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM, hundreds of volunteers of all ages will gather for a day of public service at North Shore Open Space Park, between Collins Avenue and the beach at 81st Street. The event engages the community in projects that enhance local parks, restore sand dunes crucial to our coastal environment, promote school attendance and environmental sustainability, transform schools into healthy, safe and productive learning environments, and promote intergenerational dialogue between youth and senior citizens, all while introducing participants to community-based services and resources, many of which are free.

Volunteers will receive lunch, a free T-shirt, and a free reusable water bottle.  There will be raffles with prizes for all ages. Students will receive documentation of their participation so they may obtain community service hours at their respective schools.

Registering to volunteer is easy and mandatory. Click here to complete the online form. Unfortunately we are not able to accept walk-up volunteers due to the size of the event, so please be sure to register online now, before the event fills up!

Family Service Day’s Resource Fair will focus on providing information about the many services available in Miami Beach; including job training, counseling, youth development programs, truancy prevention initiatives, educational support, health care services, the IB education program, youth employment, and food banks, among others. Many of these services are available free of charge!

Presenters at the Resource Fair include members of the Miami Beach Service Partnership, a collaborative engaging more than a dozen community service agencies. By raising the visibility of the partner agencies, the event will improve access to resources that increase the quality of life for all those who live, work, and play in Miami Beach. At the Family Service Day Resource Fair, visit booths with representatives from the following agencies: Ayuda, Barry University, Choices, et al, City of Miami Beach, Happy Kids Daycare, HOPE Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence, Institute for Child & Family Health, Miami Beach Coalition, Miami-Dade Public Library System, Playing the Game of Life, Rose Lesniak Dog Trainer, Teen Job Corps, and many more.

September is National Attendance Awareness Month. Students who do not complete high school make $7,000 a year less in income than their counterparts who complete school, making success at school one of the most important factors in your child’s life. At Family Service Day, the City will offer tips and programming to help parents ensure their children attend school regularly and ultimately fulfill their potential.

The Miami-Dade Public Library System’s Bookmobile will be on site to encourage reading and the Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Miami will offer free home safety education training on board its Mobile Unit.

Miami Beach Medical Group is the presenting sponsor of Family Service Day. Volunteers will each receive a free T-shirt courtesy of Happy Kids Daycare, a free water bottle courtesy of Coca-Cola, and a delicious lunch from food sponsor Shake Shack. The Miami Beach Coalition for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse are sponsoring the printing of promotional materials. Green Apple Day of Service and Teen Job Corps are providing crucial assistance in the planning and implementation of the event. The City of Miami Beach’s Parks & Recreation Department shared crucial resources to assist in the event’s implementation.
