On Saturday, September 26, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., hundreds of volunteers of all ages will gather for a day of public service at sites throughout Miami Beach. Following the completion of their projects, volunteers will come together for a celebration at North Shore Open Space Park, between Collins Avenue and the beach at 81 Street.

Family Service Day service learning projects include:

        -Affordable Housing Capital Improvement Projects

        -Art Therapy for Children

        -Beach Dune Restoration

        -Cross-Cultural Engagement Activities

        -Non-Native Plant Removal

        -Public Library Enhancements

        -Sustainability Projects at local schools

        -Waterway Restoration

Volunteers will receive lunch from burger hot spot Shake Shack, a free T-shirt courtesy of North Beach daycare institution Happy Kids, and a free reusable water bottle courtesy of Coca-Cola. There will be giveaways with prizes for all ages brought to you by RDP Agency.

Students will receive documentation of their participation for community service hours. In order to raise awareness about the issue of hunger, promote solutions to the underlying causes and show support to our neighbors in need, volunteers are asked to bring one or more non-perishable canned goods. Proceeds from our food drive will be distributed to the community’s homeless and most at-risk individuals and families.

In honor of the 25-year anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the City of Miami Beach will share valuable information on accessibility resources and City services and programs.  Among other services, the City provides enhanced access to our beautiful beaches by means of our accessible beachwalk and boardwalk, as well as offering motorized and manual beach wheelchairs, free of charge, access through the dunes by means of beach mats, and swim ropes at several locations in the water to assist swimmers with orientation or who need extra support.

Registering to volunteer is easy and is required. Click here to complete the online formUnfortunately we are not able to accept walk-up volunteers due to the size of the event, so please be sure to register online now, before the event fills up!
