REQUEST INSPECTION


Inspections are performed from 8:00am to 3:30 pm., Monday through Friday.

The approved job copy of the plans, Notice of Commencement, approved permit and permit card must be at the construction site and the address properly posted and visible from the street. The job to be inspected must be accessible. An OSHA approved ladder must be available if needed.

To request an inspection through our Interactive Voice Response System (I.V.R.) please call 305-673-7370. Please have your permit number available.

What is the Interactive Voice Response System (I.V.R.)?

The City of Miami Beach Building Department proudly uses the I.V.R. (Interactive Voice Response) System. The I.V.R. system will accept inspection requests or cancellations and will provide information on inspection results. The system is designed to perform these functions without having to speak to a customer service representative. Anyone who has access to a touch-tone service telephone can use the I.V.R. System. If a customer calls from a rotary-dial phone, the call will automatically transfer to a customer service representative. 

The I.V.R. System is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call anytime the I.V.R. System does not take time out. The I.V.R. System is designed to respond immediately to incoming calls.  The I.V.R. System can guide customers through every step of the inspection process. 

How to Use the (I.V.R.)

I.V.R. requires a touch-tone telephone and that the customer have the following available:

• Six (6) digit contractors pin number
• Permit number
• Four (4) digit inspection code number

    <1> BUILDING       
    <2> ELECTRICAL       
    <3> MECHANICAL       
    <4> PLUMBING       
    <5> DEMOLITION 
    <6> FIRE

3. Enter Permit Number 
   
4. Press        
   <1> Schedule in inspection       
   <2> Cancel an inspection       
   <3> Hear inspections results

5. Enter the six (6) digit PIN NUMBER and then the # sign

6. Enter the Inspection Code for information regarding the scheduling of the inspection

Please note:  Inspections requested prior to 5:00pm are performed the next business day.

Schedule an Inspection Online

To ensure that only valid contractors can schedule inspections, a Validation Rule is in place that will require the contractors to be activated before inspection scheduling is allowed. Validation requires contractors to submit a signed and notarized form acknowledging responsibility for online scheduling transactions. Contractors will also have to register with the vendor (Accela) online and provide contract information, a password, and an email address. We will use this email address (which will be their user ID) to validate contractors before allowing them to schedule inspections.

All online inspections are schedule through Velocityhall.com.

The procedures for scheduling inspections are as follows: 

• Click on the first down arrow to select “FLORIDA” as the state.
• Click on the second down arrow to select “Miami Beach CITY” as the municipality you wish to access.
• Click on “Check/Request Inspections.
• Select “By Address”, “By Parcel Number, or “By Permit Number” as the method by which you intend to search for permit number.
    - Due to the large volume of permits that may be attached to a
      contractor’s license, it is not recommended to search by
      License Number as this search will be extremely slow.
  

Schedule an Inspection By Address:

• Click on “By Address”
• Enter address of permit. If the address comes back as invalid, enter street name in only with no physical address or suffix such as Avenue, Street, Court, etc.
• Click on address of property.
• Click on the permit number.
• Click on “Inspections” underlined in red under “Detail”.
• Click on “Schedule” (underlined in red) on the type of inspection.
  

  o Verify inspection type and date at “Appointment Request.” Comments can be posted in the ‘Comments Section.”

• Click on “Submit”.
  o An Appointment Confirmation for the inspection will be displayed on the screen showing the inspection item request and the scheduled date.  The system will not schedule an inspection if the permit is not in good standing. Permit status can be obtained through Velocity Hall or through the Building Department’s I.V.R. (Interactive Voice Response) System at (305) 673-7370. If there are no holds on the permit and the system will not schedule an inspection, please contact the Building Department for assistance.

Schedule an Inspection By Parcel Number:

• Click on “By Parcel Number”
• Type in full parcel number without spaces or dashes
• Click on “Search”
• A list of permits may be attached to a parcel number. If the parcel number does not provide the desired result or the parcel number is not found, search the Property Appraiser’s website to verify the parcel number
• Click on the permit number
• Click on “Inspections” underlined in red under Detail
• Click on “Schedule” underlined in red on the inspection item you are trying to schedule
  • Your Appointment Confirmation will be returned to you showing the type of inspection scheduled and the date your inspection is scheduled. Should the system fail to schedule your inspection, please check your permit through Velocity Hall to verify that your permit is in good standing and can receive inspection requests. If there are no holds on your permit and the system will not allow you to schedule an inspection, please call our office for assistance.

Schedule an Inspection By Permit Number:

• Click on “By Permit Number”
• Type in the full permit number. All eight digits of the permit number must be displayed in the search
• Click on “Search”. If the permit number you are researching comes back as invalid, please click on “Search Tips” for additional ways to search for your permit number. You will access the Detail Screen of the permit you are researching
• Click on “Inspections” underlined in red under Detail
  o A list of completed and available inspections will be displayed on the screen
• Click on “Schedule” underlined in red on the inspection item you are requesting an inspection for.
  o An Appointment Confirmation for the inspection will be displayed on the screen showing the inspection item request and the scheduled date.  The system will not schedule an inspection if the permit is not in good standing. Permit status can be obtained through Velocity Hall or through the Building Department’s I.V.R. (Interactive Voice Response) System at (305) 673-7370. If there are no holds on the permit and the system will not schedule an inspection, please contact the Building Department for assistance.
